Love my greeting cards! Cynthia did a great job.
Hello! I'm Cynthia. Thanks for stopping by the shop! :)
I currently live on the east coast in the peaceful country side of Virginia. I have a new found love for the beach & I've been out there barefoot and enjoying the crashing waves as often as I can lately. :)
Here’s some of my recent backstory: In the last year I went from working a full time job and living a pretty normal life, to getting debilitatingly sick with toxic mold illness, and subsequently practicing mold avoidance (and chemical avoidance, as I developed MCS along the way, too). By God's grace I am doing much better than I was in 2019, though life is very different and has some interesting, and adventurous, challenges now.
I have been learning to live in a 6x10’ “converted" cargo trailer the last three months. (I say "converted" because it's very much a work in progress and is essentially a metal box, lol, though in the last couple months I have been able to build a bed platform and shelving, so helpful!) I sit here writing this on the third of July, having just completed three months in the trailer last week. God has so graciously provided this space where I can sleep and be away from harmful toxins that have ravished many systems of my body, and leaving my nervous system in great need of repair. Though I am extremely sensitive to mold and chemicals and the healing process is very slow, I am so grateful to have much more energy and capacity for life than I did last year.
As long as I steer clear of mold and chemicals (which can actually be quite tricky and isolating), I can function fairly normally, bar the lingering energy issues. I do spend a lot of time currently on my protocol which involves herbal medicine, special diet, lifestyle and stress management habits and routines.
When I’m not sipping tea, cooking up delicious things and reading, you’ll find me riding my bike, exploring new places, foraging herbs and creating bouquets from flowers on the side of the road, hanging out with friends and singing psalms. Also, I’m so grateful that through this last year I have been able to paint more like I have longed to for some time.
It's been a therapeutic and life giving outlet in many ways.
I am so thankful for all of you who have appreciated my artwork and help make this necessity of flexible work a possibility and reality. :)
At The Cynthia Shop you'll find expressions of a pilgrim’s journey through seasons of life. You'll find words that have helped to set my heart on things above, words that stir my affections for the Lord, words that encourage my soul to continue blessing the Lord, to look forward in hope to the eternal life we have in our Lord Jesus Christ.
After all, my shop was birthed out of a love for hand lettering and the increasing awareness of my need to have His word ever before my eyes, to remember and acknowledge Him in all things, and “forget not” all His benefits.
I found, years ago, by God’s mercy, that as I meditated on God’s word, the anxiety and heaviness of spirit that has in the past, and that can still weigh me down and distract at present, is turned to praise, thanksgiving and faith when I think on Him who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. Understanding who God is, as He has revealed Himself to be in the scriptures, has been the anchor and peace of my soul.
This charge to “forget not”, will always be one that I have need to pursue. A charge that I daily face and need to set as utmost priority. It is one that we all face day to day, in our personal lives, whether in prosperity or afflictions, health or sickness, and especially in light of the state of our present world. Where there is much temptation toward fear and distraction, I pray that The Cynthia Schafer Shop may be an encouragement toward remembering our all wise, all powerful, sovereign God, who loves us and sees us and delights to be in communion with us.
May directing our eyes to and keeping our minds stayed on Him bring peace and may He grant us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. ✨
