Playing with yarn and fabric
Have you ever played that game where you image what you would do if you won the lottery? I bet you have (even if you've never played the lottery).
My dream has always been to open a secondhand book store with a craft shop and cosy cafe attached. The book store would have comfy chairs and cosy corners, and people would be encouraged to linger, sit and maybe enjoy a coffee and cake with their new-to-them preloved book. The craft shop would be light and airy with beautiful yarns and fabrics and threads, and it would have a huge wooden table where people could gather, craft and chat (and enjoy yet more coffee and cake). And of course I would get to play with the yarn and fabric all day.
Well, I still haven't won the lottery (maybe one day I will actually buy a ticket!), but I have opened a craft shop of sorts. It's not the type that sells yarn and fabric, but it does allow me to play with yarn and fabric and share the things I make with people who love handmade items but don't have the time or energy to make things themselves.
I believe every person and every home deserves a little handmade love. A single cushion can ease an aching back and turn a familiar chair into a place of comfort. A beautiful baby blanket may one day become a family heirloom. Lavender sachets can help ease a stressful day, and lavender and hops pillows can help bring sweet sleep.
Everything in my shop is made by me. Some things are sewn on my old sewing machine that I bought long ago (and very cheaply) when I was a poor student trying to make my own clothes. Some things are totally handsewn. Most are a combination of both and most include recycled fabrics, threads or buttons. Nothing goes to waste.
I hope you like my items. Maybe one day I will have a real shop and you can come and visit and share that coffee and cake!
