Hi, I’m Beckie – the designer and maker behind The Leather Store.
When I opened my little Etsy shop back in 2008, I had no idea how far it would take me. I started with a handful of handmade leather bags, wrapped and posted from my home, and since then, more than 39,000 handbags have found new homes all over the world. Along the way, I’ve received over 12,000 glowing reviews and connected with a wonderful community of bag-lovers. Those numbers make me proud, but what really excites me is knowing that each bag is loved and used in daily life.
MY INSPIRATION
I’ve always been drawn to the timeless feel of the 70s, generous and practical shapes, soft supple leather, and a touch of bohemian spirit. Every design starts with me personally selecting the leather from trusted, family-run tanneries, ensuring the texture, finish, and colour are just right. I obsess over the details, from the brass hardware to the strength of the zips and the cheerful floral linings that brighten the inside of every bag.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
Creating each of The Leather Store bags begins in the same way: research, inspiration, and a hand-drawn sketch. There are often multiple revisions until the design is exactly right. Only then will we create a sample to double-check that every tiny detail is perfect before producing the final item.
MY LEATHER
Choosing the right leather is one of my favourite (and most important) parts of the process. I carefully consider the grain, texture, and thickness to make sure each hide is the perfect match for the design.
The leathers I use are developed especially for The Leather Store by two family-run tanneries, each with generations of experience. They craft my full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, known for its durability, supple feel, and subtle variations in tone. Vegetable tanning is the most environmentally friendly method of producing leather, utilising natural materials rather than harsh chemicals. The result is a leather that ages beautifully, developing its own unique character over time.
My leather is Chrome VI tested and approved to strict EU standards. The tanneries I work with are REACH-compliant, ensuring my leathers and nickel-free hardware meet the highest environmental and safety regulations.
THE FINISHING TOUCHES
I’ve always believed the little things matter. That’s why every bag is finished with smooth-running zips, sturdy brass hardware, and our cheerful floral linings. Each order also comes with a pure cotton dustbag, a recyclable pot of natural leather balm, and care instructions, so you can keep your bag looking beautiful for years to come.
SUSTAINABILITY
I care as much about the planet as I do about the quality of my bags. That’s why I design with longevity in mind, bags that last in both style and wear.
I follow a low-waste policy, using as much of each piece of leather as possible.
Every bag comes with a cotton dust bag and British-made natural leather balm.
All packaging is recyclable.
As a small business, I enjoy working with and supporting other independent businesses in the UK, from photographers and models to packaging and stationery suppliers.
Every person involved in creating, supplying, and distributing The Leather Store products is paid a living wage.

Since 2008, I’ve been proud to design and create every piece that carries The Leather Store name. My products are only available directly from my official outlets. I don’t wholesale, dropship, or share designs with other companies. When you buy from The Leather Store, you’re guaranteed an authentic piece, designed with love and made to last.
