What It's All About...
I've studied photography for the past 23 years. I've learned lighting and styling and color and posing, but photography is so much more than the sum of it's parts. Photographs have the unique ability to connect us- to our stories, to the beautiful world around us- and even to our own reflections. Every photograph in this collection is a story to me- a place I visited, a moment that made me pause- or took my breath away. It is my sincere hope that it brings you to those same memories and daydreams.
My studio is based in New Haven, Connecticut, but I travel worldwide, collecting photographs and stories as I go. My "home away from home" is in Paris, where you can find me any time I am free, wandering the streets, stopping at cafés, and soaking up the culture.
I am inspired by simple, authentic beauty. I am equally moved by the sound of a child's giggle and a glowing evening sky, by the incredible contrast of a red flower on a green stem, and a dolphin leaping out of the water. As you look through the pages of the shop, you will see similar looks throughout my body of work- even those from different series will often have similar colors and lines. Feel free to order prints from different series and create a gallery of very different images that work beautifully together (if you're interested in this, order a custom gallery set to get a discount!).
As a professional photographer, I take as much care in the printing of each photograph as I do in developing it. I use professional cameras and equipment to provide me with the best possible "raw" image. Each photograph is then carefully edited by hand, a process that can take several hours. I've color matched my computer screens to the professional print shop where your print is created, so when your print is ordered, both the accuracy of the colors and the longevity of the print are guaranteed. I love what I do and hope you see that in every step of the process. Please reach out if you have any questions I can answer- whether it's about the print, the story behind it-- or the location where the images were taken!
In the meantime, I hope the photographs connect you to beauty and meaning.
With Love, Karissa
