A shop showcasing the wares of three women woodworkers.
The Martin Collective is a collaboration showcasing the woodwork of three women, a mother and two daughters, based in Alabama and Georgia.
Becky got her love for wood working from her Grandfather and Great Uncle (both born in the late 1800’s) who made furniture. She still has their antique tools and tool boxes to keep her inspired. She has always loved working with her hands whether it be gardening, wood working or sewing. Her first project was in 1972, when she built a platform for a day bed in her tiny apartment. Since then she’s made small tables, birdhouses, bird feeders, porch swings, Adirondack chairs, among other things. Now her interest has expanded to turning wood on the lathe. She loves making Christmas trees, honey dippers, twig pots, vases, lamps, and lidded boxes from trees on Martin Farm where she lives with her husband.
Jennifer has been woodworking since 2019. She creates for The Rural Forest using wood from fallen and dead trees found on the nine acre property where she lives with her husband and three cats. Working on the lathe in a wood shop she shares with her parents, she lets each unique piece of wood inform the objects she creates, striving to bring out the natural beauty in each. She enjoys making bangle bracelets, candleholders, napkin rings and holiday ornaments.
Allison, creator for Cambium Craft, has always had a fascination with woodworking and has a long history of creating self designed furniture and display pieces for her home in Athens, Georgia. Recently she has found a passion for woodturning and focused her creative endeavors on the lathe. A love of cooking and years of bartending leads her to create an array of functional kitchen and barware. She also likes making chain pulls and ring boxes. Her focus on often-used, everyday items speaks to her belief that true elegance is in the beauty of the mundane.
