Hi everyone, I thought it was time to introduce myself and share a little of the story behind The Northern Snug Company.
I’m Kirsty Brennan, originally from Newcastle, and now living in Helmshore in the beautiful Rossendale Valley. This area is steeped in the history of the textile industry, with mills and weaving once at the heart of the community. In a way, it feels rather special that I’ve found myself working with yarn here too — just in my own small, modern way.

What began as a simple hobby during quiet moments at home slowly grew into something much more. The more I knitted, the more I fell in love with the process — the rhythm of the stitches, the softness of the yarn, and the feeling of creating something with my own hands.

Before long, it became a real passion.

Every blanket I make is hand knitted using thick 2cm chenille yarn, creating a chunky, cloud-soft blanket that’s made to be properly snuggled into. Each one takes time, care, and patience, and no two are ever exactly the same.

For me, these blankets are about more than just keeping warm. They’re about the feeling of comfort — curling up on the sofa after a long day, sharing quiet moments with the people you love, or simply wrapping yourself in something soft and calming.

That’s the heart behind The Northern Snug Company — creating something that brings warmth, comfort, and a little bit of togetherness into people’s homes.
