Frequently asked questions

How do returns work?

The items are sold as is and we will not accept any return, unless there was an obvious factual mistake in the description (in such case, please contact us within 5 days after receiving the article).
Please pay extra attention to the « condition » statement for each item and contact us before a purchase if you have any question.

In case you feel you did not receive the item that was described, contact us as soon as possible. Please wait for our answer before sending back an item. Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs.

If you have received an item that was damaged during shipping, please take a picture of it, including how the packaging looked when received. This helps speed up the claim process with Japan Post.

Why is shipping not available to my country?

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Japan Post has suspended shipping to many countries. If shipping to your country is currently unavailable, you can message us and we'll check if there are other options available (private carriers, surface mail, etc.).

If shipping is available to your country, but you would like a quote for express shipping via a private carrier, feel free to message us.

About vintage/antique items and their condition

Read the condition statement carefully and look at all the photos before purchasing.
These general guidelines are based on my impression of the garment when I carefully inspect it.
[A] Great condition to very good condition. The item shows no or little signs of wear and might have no or minor damage.
[B] Very good to fair condition. The item shows signs of wear and has some more or less visible damage.
[C] OK to « good for upcycling ». The item is obviously damaged.
[ANTIQUE] items are over 70 years old and are necessarily more fragile due to their age. Recommended for those who don’t mind the visible signs of an item lovingly passed down from mother to daughter over generations.

Sizing details

The fit of a kimono depends on if you are planning to wear it the traditional way, or if you simply wish to wear it as a robe.
If you are planning to wear it the traditional way, here is how to check if any kimono can fit:
1- Measure your height. A kimono will fit in length if it is up to 10cm more or 10cm less than your height.
2- Measure your hip at the fullest part and check the total width of the kimono. If (total width) minus (your hip size) is over 40cm, the kimono will fit you well. If it is between 25cm and 39cm, the kimono will fit but may be a little tight. If it is less than 25cm, the kimono won’t fit you.
These are general guidelines and you are very welcomed to contact me with your sizing info if you'd like me to help.

Shipping and Covid-19

Please kindly understand shipping delays are much longer than usual at this moment. We can not guarantee any timeframe for the delivery of your order, unless you pay for a private shipping carrier (please inquire).

As shipping and the current international situation is well beyond our control and is constantly evolving, we kindly ask that you refrain from ordering anything needed within a tight deadline.

We can not offer refunds on orders that are delayed in the mail.

Care instructions

I recommend taking your silk kimono, lined kimono or other silk items to a professional dry cleaner you trust.
There are different methods for cleaning silk at home, but they might not work for every type of silk, stain, or dye - if you wash a kimono at home, always make sure to test an invisible section first.
Side note: in Japan, silk kimono are never worn directly on the skin and are usually not cleaned more than once a year.

Kimono and obi should be stored in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Avoid hanging the kimono, as it deforms the seams.

What does "Mark as gift" mean?

When you select "Mark as gift" at checkout, it means we will not include a packing slip with prices inside the package.
The total price you paid will have to appear, for legal and insurance reasons, on the customs declaration on the outside of the package.
