One Woman+One Paintbrush=A Million Possibilites
OK - here's the truth: I'm not a designer. I'm not sure what colors should 'technically' go with other colors. I don't have that kind of formal training. What I am: A social worker in a past life, currently a stay-at-home mom of three - who one day picked up a paint brush and a can of chalk paint and thought 'Boy, I love this!'. And quietly, to myself realized that I'm actually quite good at it!
Painting has suddenly become a passion for me. I love putting a different twist on furniture ~ you know, to spice it up a little. On my little trips to kind small pieces of furniture I occasionally stumble upon little antique pieces that I can't resist. Things that I don't want to paint because the patina is so perfectly worn and beautifully damaged that I want to keep it 'as-is'.
And another truthism is that yes, I do have some Pottery Barn items in my home. I loved them (in the beginning) but now I look at the perfectly smooth surfaces, the production-line distress work and just think 'how generic'. There is not one single original part of the stuff . So, I guess that's what I'm trying to get away from. We all need to be original, to feel unique, and to feel that there's still life in those old bones. This is what I'm trying to convey in my store and my pieces of furniture. I don't ever want to Botox my furniture. I want the bumps and the lumps to show. That's history. A lifetime of small happenings.
So, my new venture of having an on-line store on Etsy is a growing/learning process. It's a jumble of things, it's a little disorganized, it's like life ~ and hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have.
Thanks for stopping by,
Warmest wishes
