How I got started

Like many children, I dabbled in polymer clay for fun at a young age, but have always been artistic. Drawing was my strongest suit in high school and I thought that was the road I would take.

However in my senior year I took pottery and found an even higher love for clay over the pencil, even interning under my teacher after I graduated. Sadly however it didn't last as I was pretty much just put to work cleaning everything and not learning any more than I'd already been taught so I left.

Christmas 2007 I got a bag of polymer clay and tools from my parents. Little unexpected but they thought it might be fun. And it was the start of everything!

Shortly after I dived into working with the polymer clay and self taught myself. Late 2008 I sold my art at my first convention and met Jesse. After that we decided to team up and start selling at conventions together. We've been doing it ever since!

My name is Cat and I run this little shop! Some may recognize me, or my work from conventions like Anime Boston and Another Anime Con and you'd be right! I team up with another artist at cons under the name C'Lay La Vie.

Shipping
All orders get shipped out on Tuesdays and Saturdays unless shipped with Priority, in which case I'll get them in the mail the following business day of purchase. Example: If you order Saturday night, your order will be in the mail on Tuesday with First Class, and Monday with Priority. Tracking is included in all orders, insurance comes with all priority orders.

If you buy $100 worth of anything at any time, you can get free shipping (domestic and international) Use coupon code 100FREESHIPPING

If you need to change your address from the one you submitted your order to, your order must be canceled and repurchased. Messaging me with the change afterwards or leaving a note is not acceptable for anything but minor spelling errors (ex. accidentally put in "Act" instead of Ave). This is to prevent people from using your info to buy stuff, and ensure your package goes to the address that is attached to the order.

If you are having an item shipped out of the US, you are responsible for any customs or import taxes that may apply. These are not and cannot be worked into the price as they vary by country. Additionally I am not responsible for any delays due to customs. International orders must be given 6 weeks of time from when the item is shipped before refunding. Sometimes things get stuck and takes a little longer. Please plan accordingly.

Insurance can be tacked onto any order but for the most part its better to go with priority as its included up to $50.
Additional policies and FAQs
-What Is ___ Made Of?
All charms and figures are made out of polymer clay (sculpey, premo, fimo, etc) which is baked, and then glazed with a glossy varnish for shine and protection.

Earring hook metals vary. I have Silver Plated Brass, Nickel Free, Hypoallergenic (niobium), and Gold Filled. Niobium is arguably the best as its a solid metal (not plated, no alloys) and of course comes in a variety of colors.

-Can I Have A Quote?
Yes, you may contact me for a quote within reason. Please don't contact me for a quote tacking on a new item every time I quote you back. Compile everything you're looking to order from me into one list for one quote and take off items until you're set with what you want. Not to say you can't add items after your first quote or two but the less back and forth we have to do, the quicker you'll get your answers and the sooner I can get to work on your order.

-Can You Hold X Item?
No, everything is first come first served. If you saw or fave'd an item before and can't find it in the shop or its listed as purchased, feel free to contact me, I may still have it! If an item doesn't sell after a given period, I stop listing it.

-Are Commissions/Custom Sculpts Open?
As of 10/20/2019, no, they are closed until further notice. If you become a Patreon supporter, you'll get first dibs when they reopen.

-Can You Make ___?
I reserve the right to reject a commission on any grounds I like but the basics are the following: Nothing Homestuck (unless its your OC), no nudes, and nothing pornographic or dirty. Also, my style is my own, I will not copy another clay artist's work for you. If you want that item, make it yourself or buy it from them. All orders of items I've not made before MUST have a picture reference. Written descriptions are not acceptable reference.

-Any Sales Going On?
Sometimes, if there's one going on when you ask for a quote, I'll be sure to include the deal if your order qualifies (or at least let you know what's happening). Keep in mind though if the sale ends and you haven't paid, then the sale doesn't get extended for you.

-How Do You Make ___?
Blood, sweat, tears, a lot of practice and trial and error.
As of right now, only Patreon supporters get to look behind the scenes and see my process.

-Why Do You Hide Your Work Behind Paywalls?
I don't, all finished work (unless a commissioner says otherwise) eventually gets posted to places like DeviantArt and Instagram, it just takes a long while because it needs to be finished, photographed and then edited which is all done by me. I am a one-woman business, so the free stuff takes longer. If you don't like waiting then become a Patreon supporter for just $1+ a month to help support my work and see everything first, among other perks!

-Bulk Orders / Consignment /Reselling
I do take bulk orders for charms, so if you want to purchase 5 or 10 of a charm to either make jewelry for yourself or resell (you can only do so at conventions/fairs I'm not already attending) then I'm all for it!

Orders can be any size but quantities of 20+ of 1 type of charm get 40%. Orders that include the charms having a doohickey of some sort (necklaces, earrings, etc) only have to do half for the discount. So 10 charms on necklaces instead of 20.

If you're reselling my work at conventions, you MUST be selling at a con that I don't already sell at. Most cons don't like artists re-selling other people's work and we'd basically be competing with one another. A whole level of awkward. Consider New England conventions off limits as that's where I tend to sell. If you plan to sell my work in your shop (brick and mortar shops) wonderful, please send pictures when everything is set up so that I can help promote your place!

-Method of Contact
Wherever you see me! Etsy and Facebook are primary places but I check all social media daily so I should see your message wherever you choose to contact me.

-Custom/Large Order Payments
All orders totaling less than $300 must be paid up front in full, and 50% of that is non-refundable unless something happens where I cannot fulfill your order.
Orders totaling more than $300 have to have 50% paid up front and that is non-refundable, the rest can be done in increments or paid in full.
Payments in full can be done thru Etsy or Paypal. Payment increments must be done thru Paypal.

-Revisions/Changes for Custom Sculpted Orders
When making your commission if its something I haven't made before then you're allowed 2 revisions. After that you'll be a charged a fee per revision (25% of the item's base price) and that goes up by 25% for each revision. Handmade items are harder to change details on, especially clay were most details are stuck on pretty tight, and after so many changes it will look very ugly and so redoing the entire piece is likely the better bet. Once the item is baked no further changes may be made.

-Time Frame for Custom Sculpted Orders
Specify up front whether you need the items by a certain date otherwise assume they won't be ready in time.
I work on clay whenever possible but I have a day job so my time for clay is limited.
Please be patient, if you harass me or are rude to me or push for updates repeatedly (daily/weekly) when I've already informed you on the current state of your commission, then your order will be canceled and you'll be refunded your money except the 50% deposit.

-Disclaimer/Care
Wear and tear is unavoidable for the charms so be gentle. Figures are not toys.
My work is not waterproof so do not wear items in or put items in water.
My work is not for small children and should be kept out of the way of pets.
While the clay is non-toxic, most have some metal in them to hold them together which could be harmful if swallowed.
