When I was in high school, I told myself that I wanted a job where my uniform would be a lab coat. Though at that time, I really had no idea what I was doing or where I was going.
During my undergrad, I decided to major in Chemical Engineering because I like chemistry and math. Lol. I have never been more wrong in my life. I was young and naïve. It really was not what I expected it to be. I struggled, a lot. It took me 6 years to finish my undergrad (damn you fluids!).
In my 6th year, I joined a research project where we investigated the corrosion behavior of medical implants. I had a great research advisor who also doubled as a life mentor at times. He believed in my potential, especially at a time when I did not even believe in myself. Honestly, this was the time when I started figuring out what I really wanted to do with my life. I discovered my passion. I fell in love with doing research in material science.
After my undergrad, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Materials Engineering. I loved it! My classes were all in the late afternoons and my days were spent doing research in the lab.
Fast forward to the present, I work as a contract research fellow for a government agency where I investigate the durability of nitinol medical implants.
Oh, and I get to wear a lab coat every day. My high school self would be so proud.
P.S. I started this brand because I wanted to spread awareness and information relating to science, engineering and research. Many of the things I wish I knew during my younger years (I'm not that old!). Forewarning, I might sprinkle some cheesy puns and pop culture references here and there. 😊
