The Rustic Mermaid Story
The Rustic Mermaid began as a small passion project for me in 2019. I’ve always loved wandering along the shoreline, collecting shells, stones, and gifts from nature. Turning what I find into meaningful, handmade gifts quickly became one of my favorite creative outlets.
What started with painting oyster and clam shells to highlight their natural beauty soon grew into larger creative projects including decoupaging, gilding, and other craft adventures to transform each shell into a unique piece. Meant to bring a bit of light, joy, and coastal magic into someone’s home.
Friends and family began joining in on the shell-hunting adventures, gathering pieces for me from beaches and oyster shops across Connecticut and New York. Before I knew it, The Rustic Mermaid had grew into something bigger.
I also wanted to make sure giving back was at the heart of my business. So for every shell sold, I donate a portion of the proceeds to local homeless shelters and community organizations supporting people in need. Creating art from nature and turning it into something that can help someone else inspires me to keep going.
