5 out of 5 starsI purchased to paint and donate to my church for a new program. Items were shipped quickly and carefully packed. They're easy to paint and I like having the pattern markings woodburned in them. Figures fit loosely in the little stands, so I’m going to shim with round, pointed toothpicks and cut flush after the glue dries. Photo shows “toothpick shim” idea before toothpicks are flush cut.

Thank you so much for your review! For future catechists wondering about the width of the bases. We have a standard spacing on the bases, due to several factors. The main one is that industry standards say that anything from .17" to .25" can count as "quarter-inch" and our wood supply varies over time (we personally do not use anything thinner than .19"). Secondly, some catechists use thicker paint than others so their pieces may no longer fit in the bases. A little wood glue and the figure glued towards the front or the back (consistently) is all you need, although this idea of a toothpick fill in works great when you are not using thick paint and the wood is towards the thinner side.

5 out of 5 starsI was under the impression that the base would hold the pieces in place, kind of like a puzzle. It is just a flat board with outlines rather than any indentions. Otherwise, it was fine and well made.

Doing this work as a puzzle frame with insets is a great idea! I may add that as an option. Thank you for your patronage, review and the idea!

5 out of 5 starsThese are a nice size and weight and the printing is well done. Whether you will still be able to read them after painting remains to be seen but I have been assured that it will. However, they came without hinges and the assembly instructions I was sent deal only with the Maxims cabinet...which I did not buy. I bought only the Great Commandments tablets and now I have to go hunt for appropriate hinges and figure out how to put them in. Disappointing that if the hinges are NOT going to be included, that be stated clearly OR give an option for with or without.

Thank you for your honest feedback. The listing does mention that hinges are no longer included (too many requests for variations to be formally listed that it got too confusing for everyone, that now I just take special requests), but I can understand how it could be missed. Please let me know if I can do anything more for you!

Frequently asked questions
Do the 2 dimensional figures come with bases to hold them in a standing position?
Yes. As stated in the description on each listing, each 2-dimensional figure comes with a grooved base for you to the glue the figure into. Due to differences in wood thicknesses, this groove may be snug or may have space. Using a specifically wood glue will secure the figure in place regardless of the available space.
Do all Sheep Gate materials conform to the CGS materials manual?
The items that are intended for sole use in the CGS atrium conform to a CGS materials manual. There have been many iterations over the years and (as told by several involved with CGS), "the materials manual is not a Bible." When comparing Rome materials to current materials and all the iterations in between, we conform to the 32 Characteristics, essentiality and suitability for children's use to provide a material that will last for years to come.
