The Sisters' Square
The Sisters’ Square is rooted in a vision shaped by a deep academic and personal commitment to sustainability. While studying Ecology, Environment and Sustainable Development at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati, the founder developed a strong understanding of responsible production, conscious consumption, and the urgent need to support local economies. This eco-conscious perspective became the foundation of the brand—guiding its purpose to create fashion that is not only beautiful, but also ethical and sustainable.
The idea took form during the uncertain days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when unemployment and livelihood loss affected many families across Assam. Witnessing these challenges firsthand inspired the founder to build something meaningful—an initiative that could generate dignified livelihoods while preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Her connection to handloom runs deep. Handcraft was a natural part of her everyday life, and she grew up watching her grandmother and aunts weave on traditional looms. Alongside this, her father’s long-held dream of building a handloom manufacturing unit further shaped her understanding of the craft. These experiences instilled in her a strong sense of responsibility to preserve and continue this legacy.
From this intersection of heritage, sustainability, and purpose emerged The Sisters’ Square—a brand envisioned as a global sisterhood, where women, artisans, and communities grow together. Rooted in Assam’s handloom traditions, it celebrates slow fashion, ethical craftsmanship, and the timeless beauty of natural textiles.
Each creation from The Sisters’ Square carries more than fabric and design—it carries stories. Stories of skilled artisans, of traditions passed down through generations, and of a conscious choice to live and consume differently. By choosing The Sisters’ Square, one becomes part of a larger movement—one that honours culture, empowers communities, and believes in a more sustainable, shared future.
