Crafting fun...starting with paper!
Hi Friend! I’m Jess and I started The Smiley Square to help spread kindness and joy to the world during this crazy time we’re living in!
Paper crafting has been a love of mine ever since childhood. While most kids at daycare would play with legos or watch TV, I’d sit quietly at the table with some paper, glue/tape and scissors and just create, literally, whatever I could dream up.
For years, designing and making cards has been my creative outlet, with friends, family, neighbours and coworkers being the recipients. And every time they would ask if I sold them and encourage me to do so. So, here we are!

Why The Smiley Square? One day, during university, when I was feeling overwhelmed and had trouble seeing the good in life I created The Smiley Square. I put them all around my room as a reminder to smile and focus on all the good things in life.
I made WAY too many to keep. So I spread them all over campus with the hopes that these squares would make others smile too, even just for a moment.
A classmate even helped put them around campus when I told her what I was doing after class one day. I thought she’d think it was a weird idea, but she didn’t.
The Smiley Square reminds me that little things matter and there are people who care. And that’s essentially what I want to do with my business: Make things that make people happy, smile and want to spread the joy too!
