Giving so more can live
Each year I donate 10% of sales to cancer research. $425 was donated during 2023. During their triple match donation time BCRF (Breast Cancer Research Foundation). received $125. Mayo Clinic offered a 5X match & received $300.
My Mother passed away in 2014 from Inflammatory breast cancer. In 1996 I survived invasive breast cancer. It returned in 2015, along with ductal carcinoma in situ. Between the two of us - 3 different kinds of breast cancer, even though genetic testing said neither of us had any reason to have them.
Dr. George Sledge, Jr. MD, was my first oncologist at IU Med Center in Indianapolis. He's now CMO of Caris Life Sciences and a BCRF Researcher. I was living in Rochester, MN in 2015 and was treated at Mayo Clinic's Breast Center. My family believes strongly in the value of research.
I have sewed ever since that apron project during the first year of 4-H. I was a Home Economics / FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences) teacher in Indiana High Schools for most of my working life. I also dabbled in real estate and was a Consumer Credit Counselor for a non-profit organization in MN for the last 12.5 years I worked.
I'm now retired and living back in Indiana near my grandchildren and still sewing.
