Being a Thread Winner ......
Hello,
My name is Dawn and I am the dreamer and the maker behind The Thread Winner. I live in a seaside town in the north of the United Kingdom. In my home studio I love to create handbags and accessories and each item is constructed using traditional methods and I am proud that each piece is designed to be used and treasured.
I was taught to sew by my Grandmother who was a seamstress; also my great grandmother was a milliner, so creativity runs through the family. When I married my husband - many years ago - I designed and made my own wedding gown which was a personal achievement I had held since childhood.
Babies arrived and they wore dresses and jumpers, lovingly handmade by the women in my family.
As my four children grew up I studied at the local college, gaining City & Guilds qualifications in Soft Furnishings, Interior Design and Textiles. My sewing is something I look forward to each day and is a constant source of satisfaction.
It was during the long months of convalescence following a major operation in 2012, I started to sew handbags and so with a stash of designer fabrics from my curtain making days and my trusty Bernina sewing machine The Thread Winner was created.
Thank you so much for taking time to stop by and learn about me.
