Thread Folk and its Beginnings
Thread Folk started around Christmas time, 2013. I drew my sister-in-law's name for our family Secret Santa and, knowing she enjoys a handmade gift as much as I do, I decided to create a modern take on the irreplaceable, sometimes cheesy, always lovely family portrait. I created a pattern of my brother, sister-in-law, three nieces and two chickens and got to stitching, teaching myself how to cross stitch along the way. Naturally, I had to stitch my own family portrait next!
I put these out there on Instagram, people liked them, people ordered them and I then spent the majority of evenings over the span of two years creating custom cross stitch portraits for beautiful families across the globe.
Throughout 2015, Thread Folk evolved somewhat. While I am no longer in the cross stitch portrait game, I am all for sharing the love of embroidery and helping others enjoy some therapeutic stitching time by creating modern embroidery patterns and kits which span across my own range of designs as well as the Artist Series.
What is the Artist Series?
I am all for creating a supportive, inclusive, creative community. Out of my desire to have "community over competition", I made the decision in 2015 to try and collaborate more and the Artist Series was born. I am working with a fabulous selection of artists who are creating amazing designs for you to stitch! With their artistic genius and me doing the grunt work to turn their art into embroidery patterns and kits, we have created some truly unique and fun stitchy projects to inspire even the most novice stitcher. This collaborative project has been an absolute joy to work during the past couple of years.
And now? I have recently given birth to my fourth child and so things have slowed down a little on the business front. But not for long! Behind the scenes, I am busy cooking up new ideas and developing some new patterns to share with you all. And while the Artist Series is not actively happening right now, I look forward to being able to drop some new collaborative patterns with some of my favourite artists from time to time!
