After 30 years of office grunt work I've taken the leap to start a crafty business and enjoy retired life as a mom, homemaker, and jewelry maker.
I'm a retired accountant who's spent the last 30 years daydreaming about working with my hands, expressing myself through my craft, and taking care of my family. Leaving the high-priced rat race in California in 2020 for a more peaceful, more affordable life in Kansas has allowed me this opportunity and I'm blessed to be able to spend my time making beautiful glass bead and silver jewelry for my buyers.
As a mother to a young lady with ADHD and anxiety I've spent years looking for ways to help my daughter manage her attention and mood while at school. Fidget spinners and pop fidget toys make too much noise and can be easily lost so I began to brainstorm alternatives. It occurred to me that at my daughter's age she might like a pretty piece of jewelry that allowed her to fidget but wouldn't be disruptive in class. I made her a simple silver wire ring with small silver beads and a tiny floppy flower out of natural stone on a silver wire post. She has told me she just twiddles her thumb on the beads and flower in class and no one is disturbed and she can focus better on her work.
Not everything I make can be used as an ADHD or anxiety tool, but this was my inspiration for starting a line of elegant yet casual jewelry for teens, young adults, and the young at heart. So much of the jewelry for people in that age bracket is made of brass or other metals that will discolor skin or become tarnished and ugly in a short time, and I want to make beautiful jewelry and accessories that a young person would be happy to wear every day and then pass on to their own child when the time comes, like my own mother did for me. My work is made to last.
I hope you enjoy the jewelry I make as much as I enjoy making it for you. Peace.
