"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius
One day early in 2018 I wanted to restart my D&D group. I wanted really nicely painted models, for everything. I had no idea what it might cost but I wanted the best. So I found the name of a local painter who happened to live in my neighborhood. I called him and we met at his place. I spent weeks trying to get him to paint my stuff... but he was so busy. So I went over there a lot to look at his work and see what he had done for me, but mostly came home empty handed... BUT I also noticed... damn this guy is good and like me he's a huge gamer!
One day after he told me repeatedly that I could paint my own models, I went up to Blick (an art store), at the end of my street, and bought a bunch of supplies to give painting a shot. I loved it. I instantly loved it. It took me 6 HOURS to paint a single Dragonborn figure but it turned out pretty good. Over the next few weeks, I watched every video I could. I asked Nate to show me how he painted. I began to understand how talented he was and I started improving quickly under his tutelage. I spent thousands on equipment and paint.. I was hooked badly.
Nate's work just floored me and I wanted in. So one day, I asked him how he was doing (in terms of business). He had commissions in process all over his apartment. He seemed underwater. So much work, but seemingly so little time to get it all done. So we talked about working together. While I watched him paint in the dim light of his dining room, we spoke about starting *something* where we could work together at a larger scale. Something we could build together that would be fun and efficient for us both.
Today, we are partners building *something* that is still, happily, emerging. That thing, is Thrill Studio.
We hope you like our work, as much as we like doing it.
