From Tree to Art, Showcasing Mother Natures Work
For the past year I have been trying to rescue as many Olive trees as I can from an orchard that is slated to be bulldozed and burned on the spot in the name of progress. Olivewood is an exotic wood and my favorite to work with. Until I rescue all that I can, all proceeds from sales will go to the cost of me driving 2500 miles per trip to get these trees and process them to future works.
The Wood
The wood dictates what each piece will be. I more times than not have a design in mind when I start a piece only for it to change as I start to carve due to grains and voids not seen when I started, so each piece I produce is what the wood wanted to be. I could force the design I want but I find that letting the wood direct the final product lends to a more beautiful natural piece.
I do my best to source only sustainable wood ( dead, down, or diseased ). I often use wood intended for the fireplace or woods already partly burned in forest fires, giving new life to otherwise wasted wood. So I hope you enjoy these resued works.
The Shop:
I opened this shop back in 2018 selling my leather goods but although I like leather I have always wanted to work with wood. I put the shop on vacation for almost 2 years while I gathered the tools and experience I needed. I find woodworking to be very relaxing. I sell my pieces as a hobby more than a business.
Handmade:
Each of my pieces are one-of-a-kind work. I do not use patterns or jigs, everything I make is 100% freehand. This along with nature's magnificent mix of colors and grains make each piece a one-of-a-kind work.
What manufacturing would call flaws and defects are deviations from a perfectly repeatable design. These so-called defects also lend to part of what makes handmade truly one-of-a-kind works. So enjoy the uniqueness of the piece knowing it's the only one in the world.
