Announcement    My custom books are currently opened for holiday custom pieces! I only have a handful of slots available for one of a kind holiday projects this year, and the last day to reach out about having a custom piece made for the holidays is Friday September 30th. After that date I cannot guarantee holiday delivery for custom orders, and I will begin scheduling consultations for custom work with January 2023 start dates.

Please note that Etsy's estimated delivery times are not guaranteed and are at the discretion of your local mail carriers. Thank you for your understanding and kindness!

Lastly, I want to take a second to thank you for all of your support over the past few years now! The prospect of pivoting from selling my work in person at art events to selling exclusively online through my Etsy shop was intimidating initially, but I've been totally floored by all of your online orders, custom requests, collaborations, and kindness, and I’m so grateful for you. I feel like nothing I write here will properly capture the depth of my gratitude so I’ll just begin by saying thanks. Thank you for choosing Tiny Erica. Thank you for trusting me with your orders and special custom projects. Thank you for your support. You bring so much joy and light to my studio, and I hope that my work has done the same for you!

With gratitude,
Erica

About TinyErica

On Etsy since 2011

Tiny Erica Jewelry empowers your creativity and style with a unique collection that’s designed on paper, crafted by hand, and built to last.

Metalsmithing has always been a gratifying process of play and exploration for me: from the ideas that strike at a moment's notice (or after many long hours of brainstorming), to the process of sketching and editing my designs on paper to work out the logistics of constructing a piece, then carefully choosing the materials that will best-suit a design, and finally working with my own two hands to carefully build out the work — forging, soldering, polishing, stone setting, and more — metalsmithing is challenging and expressive, and with each piece of jewelry I create I learn something new about the process. I think that’s what I enjoy most about this endeavor: the fact that there’s always something new to learn at the bench, and the journey is lifelong.

I graduated from Edinboro University in 2009 with my BFA, dual-concentrating in graphic design and metalsmithing, and shortly thereafter I obtained my first job in the jewelry industry. I worked as the bench jeweler for an iconic mom and pop jewelry store in my hometown fixing and repairing heirloom pieces as well as designing one of a kind items for both the shop’s inventory and our clientele. Eventually I relocated to Cleveland, where I worked for several years as a metalsmith for a production company — All the while I’d slowly begun saving up to invest in tools and equipment for my own private studio. Then finally in August 2016 I made the jump to dedicate myself fully to Tiny Erica Jewelry! Though this job is unpredictable and no two days are ever the same, I love what I do. I love working with my hands. I love collaborating with clients to create beautiful one-of-a-kind heirlooms that will be loved and cherished for generations to come. I love knowing that my work brings people joy. Now more than ever, the significance of that is not lost on me.

So thank you for visiting my shop today. Please keep in touch — I would love to work with you.

Please carefully read listing descriptions before making a purchase, as they include detailed measurements and additional information about each piece of jewelry in the shop, including production times. I also strongly recommend knowing your ring size before completing a ring purchase. If you are unsure of your ring size, my best recommendation is popping over to a local jewelry store, as most establishments will size you for free! This is the most accurate and reliable way to determine your ring size and ensure a proper fit. Alternatively, I now offer adjustable plastic sizers in my shop (Follow this link to purchase: https://www.etsy.com/listing/554801227/reusable-plastic-finger-sizing-gauge-for?ref=shop_home_active_1).

If you need any assistance or have questions regarding pieces in the shop, personalizations, or your very own one of a kind custom piece, please reach out here on Etsy or via email; I'd love to collaborate with you!

WHAT DOES THE CUSTOM PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
Whether you're local to the Cleveland, OH area or long distance, it would be my honor to work with you on a special custom design! Every custom piece typically begins with a consultation (Note that at this time all local consultations will also be conducted virtually) to discuss the scope of the project, including:
▪️ The project's budget with padding
▪️ Any need-by dates you may have
▪️ The occasion
▪️ The recipient
▪️ The recipient's style and design tastes: do you/they prefer big, bold design details, or are your/their tastes more minimal, for instance?
▪️ Your inspirations for the piece
▪️ Any reference materials or inspiration photos/sketches you'd like to share
▪️ Your preferred materials: metals and gemstones
▪️ Detailed information regarding my current lead times

If after the consultation we both feel good about moving forward with the project, a non refundable deposit of $100 is required to begin the design process. I'll request your zip code to calculate any applicable sales tax and shipping costs, and your email to invoice for the deposit. This deposit reserves time for your project on my custom calendar and covers the first round of design sketches and up to two rounds of revisions. Any subsequent revisions requested beyond the first two rounds of revisions will require an additional $50 per round of revisions.

The design process can be as collaborative as you’d like and usually requires the most time to complete (but it's also the most fun), typically taking anywhere from 3-8 weeks to navigate depending on the nature of the project. The first round of sketches will typically include ~3-5 different ideas with ballpark pricing that is subject to change based on the final design’s specifications. Once the final design specs are agreed upon, a final price will be given and arrangements will be made for payment. After at least 50% of the total has been paid, any needed materials will be sourced (which takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks) and the build will begin (approximately 2-3 weeks)! Once the build is finished and completely paid for, arrangements will be made for pickup or shipment! Please note that in light of current events all initial consultations will be done remotely and local order pickup is only available for custom work.

If you're interested in one-of-a-kind custom work please feel free to reach out either here on Etsy or via email with your ideas and questions! I'd love to work with you!

Do you accept custom jewelry requests and how do we get started on a custom design?

Absolutely, I love collaborating with clients to build custom pieces! Please reach out here on Etsy or via email at hello@tinyerica.com with your custom requests; I typically reply to inquiries within 4-5 business days.

In your initial message it's very helpful to include:
▪️ Who the custom piece is for
▪️ The occasion
▪️ Your budget with padding
▪️ Any need-by dates you may have
▪️ Any inspo photos or design ideas you have
▪️ Your preferred materials

Custom work averages 6-12 weeks to complete depending on design complexity. Silver pieces are accepted on a case-by-case basis; gold builds begin at $750+. Please see the shop's Policies for more detailed information about what the custom process looks like.

How are custom jewelry designs priced?

Pricing is determined by design complexity, number of revisions, current supply & metal markets, time, & labor.

Gold custom builds begin at $750.
Engagement rings start at $1200+ and generally fall in the range of $2000-4000[+].

Sterling silver pieces are assessed & accepted on a case-by-case basis and begin at $350+.

These numbers are very general jumping off points, so if you have a specific idea for a custom piece please reach out! I'm more than happy to chat with you & provide more nuanced & detailed insight for your one of a kind design concept.

Additionally, I also offer payment plans & flexible timelines to keep this process simple & approachable.

Can you reuse a customer's heirloom stones or gold in a custom build, and does it save on costs to reuse a customer's material?

Reusing heirloom material is done on a case by case basis.

It's possible to reuse stones graded 8 or above on the Mohs scale, however your specific stone's risks/eligibility will be assessed during our consultation. Tiny Erica Jewelry is not liable for the risks involved in extracting a stone from its original setting & re-setting it in a new piece.

At this time yellow gold can be repurposed, also only on a case by case basis.

The labor needed to prepare an heirloom stone or gold for reuse may cost as much as/greater than new material, but repurposing a special heirloom can be priceless to a client!

Learn more about Mohs here:
https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/mohs-scale
https://www.gemsociety.org/article/select-gems-ordered-mohs-hardness

What materials are used to make your jewelry?

Pieces in the shop are made using 14k yellow gold, 14k white gold, and sterling silver. Look to product descriptions to find more specific and detailed information about individual pieces in the collection, such as precious metal type, type of stones, measurements, sizing, etc.

For Custom designs, I'm also able to work with 18k and 10k yellow, white, and rose gold.

I do not work with platinum, copper, brass, bronze, palladium, argentum, or nickel at this time.

For folks with nickel sensitivities: sterling silver and yellow gold are generally nickel free. White gold does typically contain trace amounts of nickel.

Can you work on custom pieces remotely with folks outside of Cleveland?

Absolutely! I have 12 years of experience working remotely with folks to design beautiful one-of-a-kind custom pieces for their loved ones and would be thrilled to work with you! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have an idea for a special custom piece and we can schedule a safe and socially distant video chat, phone call, or we can discuss your ideas over email if you prefer.

Please note that at this time ALL consultations, including local consultations, are being conducted remotely over Zoom.

Can you repair my broken jewelry?

I only offer jewelry repair services for Tiny Erica Jewelry pieces.

Jewelry cleaning tips:

Commercial jewelry cleaners are often too harsh for use on softer stones like pearls & opals, so instead I recommend using a simple polishing cloth specially made for jewelry (like the one included with your Tiny Erica Jewelry order)! Warm soapy water with a soft wash cloth is also effective for general upkeep of your pieces.

For a deeper clean using common household products, mix 1 tsp water, 1 tsp baking soda, & a few drops of liquid dish soap into a paste. Use a soft bristled toothbrush to gently scrub your jewelry with the paste, then rinse with water & repeat as needed. Dry your piece thoroughly with a soft clean towel to prevent future tarnish.

Tips For Tarnish Prevention:

- Avoid storing jewelry in the open air, especially in humid climates such as in the bathroom or on the kitchen sink. Instead, store your jewelry in a dry, airtight container.

- Remove jewelry before using lotion, cosmetics, or perfume & be sure your skin is dry before putting your jewelry on. This helps prevent buildup on your pieces & maintains their luster.

- Avoid the use of chemicals while wearing your pieces. This includes chlorinated pool water & household chemical cleaners. These chemicals are harmful & damaging to precious metals & soft stones like opals, pearls, and turquoise.

- Store a few silica desiccant packets in your jewelry box, as they absorb moisture in the air & may slow the process of tarnish on your silver pieces!
