My name is Sandra and I am a professional artist.
I was born and raised in Sweden. My creativity began in writing: I wrote short stories and novellas in just a couple of days, always carrying a notebook with me which I would write in until it was filled up. I was always praised for my writing, even if looking back it was the typical writing style of any child and young teenager.
Drawing was something I did at a young age, too. The first memory I have of it, however, is from when my Grandfather took me and my two cousins to see one of his friends; a painter who lived in northern Sweden. I remember sitting at the table, painting flowers on a sheet of paper. The painter told me to use the whole canvas and at the time his advice frustrated me - but it's something that I am very grateful today. He took my hand and guided it over the paper and together we painted my very first big piece of art, which still hangs in my mother's house.
As I grew up drawing and painting it became more and more a part of who I was. My mother bought me a japanese comic book to try and lighten my uneasy transition into High School. The comic book was called 'One Piece', and in many ways it's the reason why I draw and paint today.
The artist, Eiichiro Oda, inspired me, and by studying and redrawing his characters I slowly began to evolve into my own artist.
I studied art in an art College in Stockholm, which brought me nothing but grief. A teacher of mine kept telling me that I needed to design shoes and nothing else to succeed in the world, so I started to spend time with Max, a friend who loved video-games and taught me to rediscover them, whilst teaching me how to draw with a more detailed Western art style instead of the manga-inspired one I'd picked up as a teen.
But why did I open my own art store? Well, the reason for this is that, after years of applying to the gaming industry I started to feel broken. I didn't give up, but I felt that it was time to put the idea of working for Valve to the side for the time being and come up with another way to do what I love for a living. To try and take things into my own hands.
So I opened a shop to share my artwork with the world, so that I can do what I sincerely love to do. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
