Fun hats always bring cheer to your patients. They're great conversation starters leading to positive patient relations. Bring Joy into your service!
I made my first hat in 1998, for my husband who was in an Oral & Maxillofacial, DDS, MD, program through the Navy at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, now the location of Walter Reed Medical Center, in Bethesda Maryland. He bought a hat off the new 'internet' and paid a price for it that is high even by today's standards. He asked if I could make it for him cheaper, he specified some changes and 'whhaaa-Laaa!', my scrub hat business began. With $700 in sales on my first visit to a local hospital, I was in business.
Though as things go, the towers went down, the Pentagon was hit, there was a crash in Pennsylvania, and my customers went to war. I continued to sew special orders here and there and we soon packed up and moved to Japan where I finally got a 'non-compete' from the Navy Exchange, but had little time before our next move to open and sell.
After settling in to Great Lakes in Illinois, I soon moved to the eBay market and opened my store in 2007. I continued sales there until I heard about Etsy. I soon shut down my eBay biz and opened my Etsy Biz. I still remember that first sale on eBay and the first on Etsy. Those are exciting times.
I continue to sew in my new home in Minnesota, as my husband is now retired from the Navy and is a partner at www.TrueNorthOralSurgery.com . I continue to serve my military base of customers with custom hats in uniform style with the special touch of embroidery.
The abundance of my sales and amazing fabric styles comes from my customer base. I take custom orders and will do my best to find just the fabric that fits you best. I have new styles mostly due to customer requests. I love my customers and know that your daily work is very important and I am happy to bring a spark of joy with what tops your head! Some hats are great conversation starters and some provide a calming effect for uneasy patients and caring families.
