About Melody's Art
After graduating from SWTSU in 1986 with a BA in Studio Art and Design, Melody began a line of silk batik and handpainted clothing, and opened Melody's Artwear Boutique on the San Antonio Riverwalk, which was featured in Southern Living Magazine in the “Day on the Riverwalk” series. Melody was selected as one of the top ten designers for Couture 88 by Fashion Group International, and did numerous juried art shows throughout the Southwest, including Laguna Gloria Art Fair, the Salado Art Fair, and the Dallas 500 Art Fest. Her work was shown at the nationally recognized Southwest School of Art and Craft in San Antonio, as well as the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Research Center.
She closed the shop in 1997 with the birth of she and husband Lindsey's first child, and “retired”, enjoying the leisurely life and blessings of their three great works in progress, Zach, Lexi, and Wren.
Turning her art more towards home, Melody began working in ceramics in 2007, with many of the Texas themes she knows and loves, wildflowers, roosters, mission churches, chili peppers, and owls. Each piece is unique, brush painted freehand, with texture and depth from strokes and carving into the paint. Melody was chosen as one of the “don't miss” South Texas artists in the December 2010 issue of Texas Monthly. In June of 2015, Texas Governer Gregg Abbott visited a Texas Gallery store that carries her work. He selected a piece of Melody's from her To the Bone Collection as a gift from the people of Texas to the Governor of Florida.
The pieces are made to be used, All are kiln fired, microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe, using made-in-America lead free paints and glazes which meet all FDA standards for food safety.
