We want to teach our daughter to pursue her passions and goals; there's no mold for life and work she has to fit in.. she can love and do it all!
When Todd and I met, he was an electrician - an electrician with a designer's eye and a creative streak that showed in everything he did (the way he cut his own hair, to the way he rolled his sleeves, and the boots that he wore). When word got around to my friends and family that he could do and build just about anything, his free time became less and less because he was spending it remodeling kitchens and bathrooms, and building custom mirrors, frames, mantels, and cabinets for everyone! This all happened at a pretty good time too; new home building was slowing down and his hours became fewer, so my brother said "Hey, have you guys ever heard of Etsy? You should look into it- maybe you could make a sale here or there, you never know." We decided to go all in, and let Todd's love for all things old, rusty, dirty, and conventionally ugly, mix with his need to use his hands to create, and began an online business that hopefully other people would love as well.
Fast forward a little more than a year into our journey.. we were staying pretty busy, then we were contacted to take a trip to NYC for Todd to be on the Nate Berkus show, with two other lovely Etsy artists. There was plenty of joking about his accent- Todd is a southern boy, and there was no way to hide that sound coming out of his mouth on national TV! There was also no way to hide Todd's talent, and this helped even more people be able to see it.
That was the first of many road trips for our little family. We've had the opportunity to personally deliver quite a few custom pieces since. (Todd's accent has not gotten any less thick and muddy).
Dining tables and benches, desks, bookcases, and cabinets have become our biggest focus these days. This is where some of my passion comes in- Not only do I also love furniture, but I love books, and I am obsessed with food, cooking, and baking. Todd and I like to come up with table and desk designs together, and think about the beautiful homes they will live in, and the parties that will be going on around them. We are thankful for customers who can see Todd's love for his work, and for letting us turn a rusty piece of steel, or a dirty old chippy painted oak beam into a beautiful piece for their home. It's an amazing thing these days that almost anything we want, or imagine having, can come to fruition so easily over a computer. We love being able to make that happen for our customers, and we're so grateful for the chance to do what used to seem like the impossible.
