Tornpaper Memories by Linda Henry

If I can create it, I am happy. Whether I am working with fabric, stained glass, watercolors, oils, acrylics, or collage papers, I am completely at peace making something with my own hands and bringing an idea to life. I graduated with a degree in fine art and continued my studies by attending the workshops of acclaimed watercolor artists. I exhibited and taught watercolor classes for many years in Pennsylvania.

All that changed when I moved West to Sedona, Arizona. I became interested in collage and the idea of using painted papers to create a design. I like the idea of evolving a design by moving pieces of color around. I also enjoy the effect of torn paper edges. I didn’t like tearing up countless magazines searching for colors and using inferior materials in my artwork. I decided to hand paint my own papers so that I could have a wide range of colors at my fingertips. It was the beginning of a new love affair.

This collection of designs was inspired by my childhood memories: fond recollections of milk and cookies, hopscotch, pancakes, playing dress-ups, learning to ride a bike, summer days… I think we all have special memories tucked away for safe keeping. These cards are touchstones to those long ago days, a key to unlock a treasure trove of cherished moments and offer a reassuring respite from the busy world in which we live.
