I'm a writer and artist in based in Portland, OR. Here to write & work & create & stitch.
I started this shop in the summer of 2014 as something of a hobby while I was working on my master's degree. Well, for better or worse, I didn't make any sales during the first year because I really didn't know what I was doing or how to market this thing. I still don't think I do. But in the meantime, I have found a real love for designing and making cross-stitch and embroidery pieces, writing and collaborating and collaging zines, and just tapping into the creative processes that come with each of these mediums.
It's been almost six years, and in that time I've moved from Portland to Omaha and back to Portland once more. I'm working at an amazing shop in the Pearl District of downtown Portland called Oblation Papers and Press. And while the current speed of the world is not allowing me to do the art thing full-time, there are so many ways I've found to tap into those creative flows. Our home has a cute little garage space that my husband and brother-in-law transformed into a makeshift studio space; I took part in #stitchtober for the first time in October 2019; my job allows workers to sign-up to design the monthly window display, which I have now taken advantage of a couple of times and absolutely love; and Portland as a whole has so much artistic expression and inspiration, it's easy to take a walk around any neighborhood and find some goodness and beauty.
As a general tendency, I always seem to have my fingers in a few too many pies at once, but I'm learning to say no, and dedicating my time to learning new stitches and techniques, to writing what I feel and see in this mixed-up world, and to creating the work that I need to create. I'm forever open to commissions, so please don't hesitate to ask. I've always enjoyed collaboration, so please reach out with your ideas. We're all just doing our best and I'm only here to see what can happen. Thank you for reading and any support is always so appreciated.
xx, Torrey
