Welcome to TruEssence Studio
Hi, I’m Natalie, the artist and surface designer behind TruEssence Studio.
TruEssence is where my love of colour, pattern, memory and self-expression comes together through art and surface design.
My work is inspired by the things that catch my attention and stay with me — familiar objects, interiors, nature, childhood memories, changing light, bold colour and the small details of everyday life.
My surface pattern collections have a playful, eclectic feel, often combining nostalgia, nature and a little retro whimsy. MaryJanesInRed began with an old childhood photograph of me wearing a much-loved pair of red Mary Jane shoes. That memory became the starting point for a collection of patterns inspired by childhood, colour and rediscovered creativity.
Each design begins with my own drawing and ideas and is developed into seamless patterns for my preferred surfaces in textiles, home decor accessories, fashion or accessories.
Alongside surface design, I also paint in acrylics, exploring ordinary moments, treasured objects and the feeling of home.
Creativity is an important part of my wellbeing and how I experience the world. I feel more like myself — and more alive — when I’m creating, and I hope some of that colour, playfulness and feeling finds its way into the things you make with my designs.
