Nothing comes to an end. It turns into a new thing. Such as the nature, the life and myself…
Nothing comes to an end. It turns into a new thing. Such as nature, life, and myself…
“We need numerous endings, on condition that we might have a good few beginnings.” – Laura Chica.
My old man, my dear dad… Fathers are regarded as the first heroes by their daughters. Just like my father for me. We were a family that lived on our own in a little town and were thankful for small mercies.
As my father didn’t have a son, I would spend my time with him rather than my mom, playing games and working in his atelier. She would say in jest to my father, “He would be a boy but by mistake became a girl. She is working consistently.” To tell the truth, before learning to cook, I learned to weave, choose the threads, design products, and create color combinations.
My father was my hero. Because of his passing, I felt alone in a stroke. No longer, it fell to my lot. I started to peg away at the work.
No matter how much I settled down to the work, it is useless without love. With the pace of life, I found myself married. I loved, yes, loved. Maybe, I wanted to fill the gap of his untimely passing. Or maybe, I supposed to find love. In retrospect, we had good times, as well. Yes, I said “had…”, because the marriage was over after my daughter. We broke up amicably. My dear daughter, the fruit of those good days, is with me at present.
After my daughter was born, I had to make time for her in large part. So, I kept away from the work. As she was growing, my longing to work was also growing. When it was kindergarten period for her, it was working time for me. Here, God is putting everything in order. There is always hope, isn’t there?
I reopened my workshop. My old customers might have missed me and my products. As my new products appeared, they started to attract attention. This interest started to increase gradually. Yes, I was doing my job well. My products and designs were popular. I met ETSY with my client's advice. I learned that ETSY is a place for designers like me, with people making their own products. My workload had increased. I had a hard time keeping up with the orders in my small workshop. However, I was determined to succeed.
I started to create towels and blankets known as the peshtemal (loincloth), which is our own production, in my workshop.
Before weaving my towels and blankets, I make my patterns and choose the most beautiful cotton threads for those patterns. Then I start weaving. I either tie the fringes of my hand-crafted products, which are carefully woven, or twist them and make them ready for use. My products, called Turkish Peshtemal Towel or Blanket, are used in every corner of our homes. They serve as bath towels, hammam towels, kitchen towels, hand towels, picnic towels, travel towels, beach towels, table covers, blankets, and more…
I believe that you will experience whatever your destiny is. There is no escape. It's my life like the colors of the rainbow. Good, bad, pessimistic, dark, bright… As if the sun shines after every rain… Therefore, the product I call Rainbow, which is one of my designs, tells about our life, the colors in our lives.
