How it all began
It was in Texas where my fascination with the potter’s wheel began around the age of 9. Yet it wasn’t until many years later that pottery became a big part of my life.
In the fall of 2015, the pottery classes I took as a child finally coalesced, as I found my passion in clay. I’ve always loved making things with my hands – having taken up crochet, sewing and other arts before finding my way back to the wheel. Years spent in the field of graphic design have informed my creative output, giving rise to a collection of pieces that reflect both technical expertise and a playful nature.
I’ve spent the majority of my life here in the Sarasota/Bradenton FL area, and it is there – through interactions with friends and co-workers – that I found the encouragement to take my creations beyond the level of “hobby.”
My life in pottery began... very small. With a tiny space we found in the garage that just barely had enough space to fit my wheel (maybe a 3 foot x 3 foot square). I only threw in the evenings or the weekends, on occasion as I had two small children to care for (Ethan was 5 at the time, Logan was 2.5).
Within a few months though, I had enough pots made and confidence building that I considered the need to open an online shop. I was working full time as a Marketing Director for a travel company at the time. Having extensive experience in front-end coding and marketing, I knew what I wanted to do.... start a side business in making mugs. I opened my Etsy shop in January of 2016 and sold my first mug within a month (that was exciting!).
However, I got busy enough by the summer to be working at home with every spare moment I had in pottery. This meant heading out to the garage as soon as I got home from work, throwing or glazing until midnight or later and working 12-18 hour days on the weekends as well. I realized by spring of 2017 that I couldn't keep up the pace any longer with both jobs and my husband and I decided it was time to make my side business officially full-time.
I love every minute of running my own business making pottery. I have incredibly amazing customers, and it fills my heart with so much joy.
I look forward to whatever my future brings me in the muddy world of pottery.
