Twilight's Fancy has come along way since 2003.
Ho fatto gioielli sin dalla mia prima creazione di detergenti per tubi e perline di plastica da qualche parte intorno al 1979. Da lì, ho fatto irruzione nella scorta di gioielli rotti di mia madre e ho iniziato a riciclare pezzi e pezzi in opere d'arte che indossavo a scuola durante la settimana e smontavo nel fine settimana e rifatta per la settimana successiva. Da qualche parte alla fine del liceo e all'università, ho iniziato a fare una catena di perline.
Nel 2003 ho iniziato a vendere il mio lavoro ed è nato Twilight's Fancy. Nel 2009, volevo fare un girocollo a nastro. Non sapevo che nei prossimi anni, Twilight's Fancy sarebbe diventato il più grande rivenditore online al mondo di morsetti a nastro. Quello che è iniziato come una caccia all'oca selvaggia per il mio progetto è diventato qualcosa che ha aiutato molti artigiani in tutto il mondo a costruire le proprie creazioni. Ogni ordine che ricevo mi fa sorridere perché conosco qualcuno, da qualche parte sta facendo qualcosa. E questo è fantastico.
Ma sotto i morsetti del nastro, Twilight's Fancy è stata la mia ancora di salvezza. Faccio accadere ogni aspetto di Twilight's Fancy. Se sono malato per un giorno, non c'è nessuno che mi copra. Quindi non posso essere malato. Semplicemente non posso. Le persone non possono smettere di fare cose belle.
Ma ero malato. Molto malato per gran parte della mia vita e non lo sapevo. Mi ero inconsapevolmente avvelenato per 28 anni. Ho sensibilità a 35 alimenti... alcuni dei quali ho mangiato ogni giorno e nel 2011, mi stava raggiungendo. La maggior parte dei medici non riusciva a capire cosa c'era di sbagliato in me. I test sono tornati tutti normali, ma chiaramente ero malato e stavo diventando sempre più debole. Avevo anche perso un po' di sensibilità e controllo motorio nella mia parte destra.
Nel 2012, ho iniziato a studiare medicina alternativa e ho iniziato a sminuire i miei guai. Attraverso tutto questo, ho continuato a far crescere Twilight's Fancy. Dovevo. Non c'era nessun altro che potesse assumerlo mentre mi riprendevo. Non sarò mai libero dalle sensibilità alimentari, ma ora sono gestibili.
E oh, come non vedo l'ora di Twilight's Fancy ogni giorno. Per ogni ordine che ricevo, invio un silenzioso "Grazie". Senza i miei meravigliosi clienti che fanno cose carine, non so cosa farei, come spingerei ogni giorno. Certo, faccio anche le cose, ma c'è solo una certa sensazione speciale nel sapere che ho fatto parte anche di progetti di così tante altre persone.
Se fossi morto, quei progetti sarebbero stati fatti? Non lo so.
Ogni giorno è un dono. Ogni ordine è un'opportunità per aiutare qualcuno a fare qualcosa. So cosa fare le cose mi ha aiutato a sopravvivere. E grazie ai miei clienti, so di non essere l'unico. Mille Grazie.
Nel mio tempo libero, sono un cliente di effetti speciali. In particolare, ho installato gli occhi nel costume per i film di The Amazing Spider-Man. Sia 1 che 2.
Scrivo e produco anche una serie web chiamata Necrolectric e sono la metà del team di scrittura di Ashleigh Raine.
Per otto anni, sono stato un extra in oltre 150 film e programmi TV. In particolare, ero una detenuta nel manicomio di Changeling e una suora morta nel 100° episodio di Angel.
Ogni giorno è un'opportunità e io amo ognuno di essi.
I've been making jewelry since my first pipe-cleaner-and-plastic-beads creation somewhere around 1979. From there, I raided my mom's stash of broken jewelry and started upcycling bits and pieces into works of art that I wore to school during the week and took apart on the weekend and remade for the following week. Somewhere at the end of high school and into college, I started making beaded chain.
In 2003, I began selling my work and Twilight's Fancy was born. In 2009, I wanted to make a ribbon choker. Little did I know that over the next few years, Twilight's Fancy would become the world's largest online retailer of ribbon clamps. What started as a wild goose chase for my own project became something that has helped many artisans worldwide build their own creations. Every order I receive makes me smile because I know someone, somewhere is making something. And that is awesome.
But beneath the ribbon clamps, Twilight's Fancy has been my lifeline. I make every aspect of Twilight's Fancy happen. If I'm sick for a day, there's no one to cover for me. So I can't be sick. I just can't. People can't stop making pretty things.
But I was sick. Very sick for much of my life and didn't know it. I'd been unknowingly poisoning myself for 28 years. I have sensitivities to 35 foods...some of which I ate every day and in 2011, it was catching up to me. Most doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Tests all came back normal, but clearly I was sick and growing weaker. I'd even lost some feeling and motor control in my right side.
In 2012, I began to look into alternative medicine and started chipping away at my woes. Through it all, I kept growing Twilight's Fancy. I had to. There was no one else who could take it on while I recovered. I'll never be free of the food sensitivities, but they're manageable now.
And oh, how I look forward to Twilight's Fancy every day. For every order I receive, I send out a silent "Thank you". Without my wonderful customers making pretty things, I don't know what I would do, how I would push through each day. Sure, I make things, too, but there's just a certain special feeling in knowing that I've been a part of so many other people's projects too.
If I'd died, would those projects have been made? I don't know.
Every day is a gift. Every order is a chance to help someone make something. I know what making things has helped me survive. And thanks to my customers, I know I'm not the only one. Thank you very much.
In my spare time, I'm a special effects costumer. Most notably, I installed the eyes in the costume for The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Both 1 and 2.
I also write and produce a web series called Necrolectric and am half of the Ashleigh Raine writing team.
For eight years, I was an extra in over 150 movies and TV shows. Most notably, I was an inmate in the asylum in the Changeling and a dead nun in the 100th episode of Angel.
Every day is an opportunity and I cherish each one.
