Announcement    Welcome to my shop!
Connecting with nature is good for the soul. Through my birdhouses and artwork, I try to portray a little bit of the uniqueness of our surroundings, I want my creations to look like they could have lived or grown somewhere around in the PNW.
Living with beautiful objects that pay tribute to the natural world reminds us to slow down and helps us reconnect with nature, and this is my work's most genuine intention.
I build all the birdhouses at home, in my garage/shop using reclaimed wood, driftwood, bark, tree branches, twigs, rocks, real moss, fungi, and lichen that are responsibly harvested and naturally preserved. These birdhouses are not just whimsical and rustic, they are also fully functional, with proper ventilation and drainage, and also a clean-out door, providing a safe and adequate environment for the birds to nest and roost.

All the flowers, cattails, and mushrooms as well as tree faces and creatures displayed in the birdhouses are carved by me, out of cedar branches or driftwood. Most of them are designed and built with the small backyard songbirds of the Pacific Northwest in mind, more specifically the ones we find here in WA State, but they are actually suitable for all small songbirds. The 1 1/4” diameter holes used are ideal for all small bird varieties like nuthatches, chickadees, titmouse, house wrens, juncos, warblers, finches, and more.

About TwoBirdsInaPod

On Etsy since 2013

Remembering , Honoring , Healing

Two Birds in a Pod was born of my passion for birds, nature, art, and the Pacific Northwest, but was also born as a way of healing.

In the past ten years, I have been struck by the loss of two of the most important people in my life: my best friend Michael in 2012, and my younger brother Luke, to brain cancer in 2019.

Working with wood and building birdhouses has provided me with a healthy way to cope with grief and anxiety. Taught me about mindfulness and gave me the strength to pull through knowing that my grief will never be too big for nature to hold. I find comfort in building birdhouses and foraging for all the natural elements I use to decorate them.

I believe my loved ones live on within me and I’m grateful for their influence in shaping the man I am today. Remembering and honoring them through my work gives me something positive to focus on and to be proud of.

When I build a birdhouse I am not just putting pieces of wood together. I am pouring my heart out. It makes me so happy when people can see it reflected in the whimsy of my birdhouses.

I hope you enjoy them, and definitely hope you find one you love and feel connected to, and can share with your friends and family!
