When the youngest of my five children went to school full-time, I went back to college to study English and Philosophy/Theology. Managing a family while keeping up on my studies proved stressful and I began taking balls of yarn with me to school, working on knit or crochet projects between classes or even during some classes. In fact, my philosophy professor told me to not come to his classes without a knitting project as knitting seemed to "allow my sarcasm to leach through my fingers into something productive." When I graduated, I presented him with a crocheted blanket for his granddaughter.

My fellow students began suggesting that I open an Etsy store after I crafted market bags for everyone in my speech class as part of a persuasive speech. I had no idea what they were even talking about; so, in true college student style, I typed "Etsy" into Google. I was blown away by the offerings and wanted to be a part of such a creative community! And that's how UncommonlyGood was born.
