Our Sashiko threads are specially designed for the Sashiko purpose. Some threads are dyed with Natural Vege/Herb. The better Sashiko thread will result in the more beautiful stitching. There are many reasons we call it "Sashiko thread".

We also provide some Sashiko fabric, Sashiko art pieces, and small bags and accessories. Enjoy the great quality of our supplies & art from long-lasting tradition.

[Note about International Shipping - outside of the USA & Japan]

Your package may be shipped from either the United States or Japan, depending on the destination. Atsushi will ship orders to U.S. addresses from Pennsylvania via USPS. Keiko will ship orders to Japanese and other international addresses from Japan using Japan Post. We’ll choose the most efficient shipping method based on your location—no additional shipping fees will be charged.

Everything is to a level that I didn't expect. It's like my 20 dollar purchase changed a family's life or rescued a puppy from a Peta shelter. I can't wait until I need to buy more things from up cycle stitches. I am kind of bummed it will take so long for my needle and thimble to wear out.

I was born in the Sashiko family. Sashiko was always with me. I looked at Sashiko, felt Sashiko, even when I didn't appreciate my privilege.

Sashiko has its origin as a process of repairing and/or strengthening the fabric. The Japanese enjoyed the process to provide the warmer, thicker, and more beautiful cloth to their family. Sashiko used to be a daily chore every household was performing, to care for someone you care.

In the 21st century, we find their spirit and their relic beautiful, somtimes more than beauitful. Boro is one of the results of continuous caring Sashiko. The Japanese kept repairing, mending, and repurposing the fabric. They always appreciated the fabric with the spirit of Mottainai (もったいない)- Too good to waste.

My mother and I try to pass the culture of Sashiko down to the next generation. It shouldn't be kept in ourselves anymore.

Care instructions

[Natural Dye Sashiko thread]

Please avoid any detergent with bleach or similar chemical in it. Please use the Neutral detergent when you are in need of washing. Some dye process requires the chemical reaction, and any oxidation or reduction may change or wash out the color. Hand-wash is recommended for the first few times.
