The spoon is more worn than I expected, but otherwise this is a great idea.

Dumpster Diving for the Animals
So, I haven't actually ever jumped into a dumpster but I do try to keep most stuff from ever hitting the dumpster. When I started my Etsy shop it was an attempt to lighten my impact on the earth in order to preserve the animals habitat that I share the planet with. You see, my background is in Zoology and I've spent more than a decade working with animals in Zoos and wildlife rehabilitation shelters. The most important thing I learned is that EVERY single action I take has an impact on the environment ...and the animals trying to make a home in it.
It started out small, my obsession with trash that is. I took all that paper that was headed to the landfill (newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc) and started cutting it up, rolling it into tiny paper beads and making jewelry from it. Then it got bigger! I started making pet beds and toys, jewelry from silverware, scrapbooking embellishments from soda cans, etc. Now, I relish the challenge that every piece of trash brings to me. Many of my creations don't actually end up in my Etsy shop, instead they become tutorials for my blog readers and YouTube subscribers.
As a member of Team EFA (Etsy for Animals), ten percent of all my shop sales go to the Jane Goodall Institute to help them continue their work of conserving chimpanzees and their habitat. In addition, I often make pet toys by the dozen to send off to pet shelters in need.
