My husband and I own and operate two small restaurants in our area. Creating recipes and drinks to quench our customers thirst and satisfy their appetites is what we have done for 25 years. I am a mother of two, gardener, dreamer, dog lover & craft beer enthusiast. Finding time to satisfy and develop my creative side is often difficult to say the least.

I am the kind of person who needs to take a step back and figure out how things began. Whether it is from a seed, from a vision or from the heart. Everything starts somewhere.

My creative journey actually begins with my discovery of metal. The ability to manipulate metal into beautiful pieces of jewelry. Finding that perfect stone or bead to turn a design into a piece of art. I studied and created jewelry for a little over a decade. Selling primarily to my family and friends by word of mouth.

Okay, so why soap?
The soap making part of the equation came later due to a need. I guess most everything is started due to the need to make something better. My children and I suffer from sensitive skin and are prone to rashes, dryness and itchiness. My daughter has struggled with eczema since she was born, along with Acne in her more recent years. I bought some natural soap from a local soap maker and noticed how my skin felt nourished and alive. I started researching oils, butters and essential oils to find products that could help our skin be more healthy and just feel better. I learned about the nasty ingredients the big companies are using in their products and the harm it not only does to our own bodies but to our environment as well.

After zillions of hours of research on soap making. I decided to give it a try. This propelled me into taking classes on soap making. A lot of emphasis was on the Chemistry of soap making which was a bit scary to a right brain person like me. however, I survived and have learned to embrace chemistry and science. I have been tested and certified as a Cold Process Soap maker by the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild and have met the most amazing people along the way. I continue to take classes and learn as much as I possibly can in order to continually grow and create the best products I can.

I guess you can say, the rest is history. Urban Soapsmith is a marriage of the two things I love most. ♥

My vision is simple, Hand-crafted Soaps made with ingredients you CAN actually pronounce made from the ground up. All my soaps are made the Cold process method and only in small batches so I can have complete control of each ingredient. I am continuously challenging myself to develop the best recipes I can and to keep as close to nature as possible and chemical free. All of my products are thoroughly tested by my wonderful test subjects, my family and friends for several months to insure a quality product.
