About VIRTUES of COLOR***

Hi, my name is Julie and I work as an interior designer in the San Diego, CA area.

I have always been fascinated with color, fabric and design. My interiors company, VIRTUES of COLOR, https://www.virtuesofcolor.com/ has evolved into focusing on those three elements for the home.

I am also a full-on "fabricaholic" and I started my Etsy shop (very, very part-time) as a way to get out more of my creative energy and put my fabric stash to work.

My process is consistent. I am a tactile person and pull fabrics from shelves of my office/studio while referring to my sketchbooks for concepts and designs. The room looks a little haphazard, but gets tidied up and organized again when the design feels "right".

There has to be something special about the pillow cover- either the mix of textures and colors or some added detail. The piecing and graphic design element in the pillow covers comes from my many years of making art quilts.

Sewing the pillow covers is meditative for me, and I am a stinker for quality. I learned techniques at an early age from a mama who is a perfectionist.

Finally, I name the different designs in their shop descriptions to emphasize their uniqueness!

I am very excited about my new sustainable, hand-dyed pillow cover designs that I create from dyeing my leftover linen scraps. Upcycling has always been a way of life for me.

My goal is to continue adding to my inventory and becoming a "go-to" for truly one-of-a-kind accents for a room.
