Warehouse RoyGBiv was founded on two different ideas:
1) Providing young girls with the nerdy clothing and products they want. There's a major lack of nerdy/sci-fi/comic book clothing for girls that isn't pink and frilly. We want to give girls the opportunity to express their love for these things in their own way.
2) Upcycle old, damaged comics and books into something new. Books have always been important to us, and we hate seeing them thrown away. We take books that are missing pages, have rips, or are otherwise damaged and give them a second life as home decor items.
We want to share our passion for books and nerdy things with you! All of our products are handmade with care. They may not be perfect, but they're unique and something you can treasure.
Kristi sums up our views on nerdy girl clothing:
One of the first things I did when I found out I was pregnant was to go clothes shopping. Since I was having a girl, I immediately scoped out all of the dresses and outfits that I could potentially get her so that she could share in my love of comics, movies, science, and video games. However, I was very disappointed in the offerings I found. Though they had cute girl outfits, they often focused intently on princesses, to the exclusion of everything else. On the rare occasions I found superhero outfits, they often insinuated that my daughter wanted to have Batman or Superman as a boyfriend, or they had taken the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and given them a pretty pastel makeover.
I could not bear to have my daughter wear these items, and I did not want to relegate her to a life of wearing only boy t-shirts and no dresses. For that reason, I started making dresses from fabric that included my favorite characters. Doing so allowed my daughter to wear the dresses she loved with characters she enjoyed so that she could be both empowered and beautiful. Once I started making these dresses, so many other mothers expressed an interest in my clothes that I decided to make them full time. To me, these outfits are more than just a business; they are an investment in the little girls of the future. It is my way of telling them that they are worthy of equal representation in the fandoms that many of them love and enjoy and that they are in no way lesser because of what they like. No one, no matter how young, should feel that they need to conform to fit in. I can only hope my clothes help little girls realize that.
