Frequently asked questions

Will my bracelet rust?

This is a two parter:
1) if it's stainless steel or titanium, no.
2) if it's not stainless and you wear it at night or during activities where you're sweating, there's a good chance it will rust. You probably won't notice it on the bracelet itself but on your skin. The key with steel is keeping it dry. Showering is not usually a problem; it dries quick enough. But a prolonged period of sweat will probably mean some rust.

Will the finish on my bracelet fade?

Yes. Over time, depending on wear and use, the black oxide finish or temper colors will fade to the natural gray of steel. When that happens, just drop it in the mail to me and I'll re-finish your bracelet. You might even try a different look if you're tired of the old one. No charge for the first time!

Do you do customized orders?

Sure! I can't promise I'll do your design, but I'd love to try. Or at least think about it.

Sizing details

When you measure your wrist (between hand and wrist bone), take the exact measurement (inches or millimeters) without adding anything for comfort or adjusting for the gap. Take a snug measurement, and I'll do the adjusting (I have a formula!). However, if you do want it unusually loose or painfully tight, let me know. (Sorry about all the parentheticals.)

Care instructions

Stainless and titanium shouldn't oxidize at all, so there's almost nothing you need to do to take care of your bracelet.

Every once in a while I'll rub my bracelets down with a little mineral oil (any clear oil is fine) just to boost the shine.

Why is your shop called Watermark Forge?

A watermark is the faint imprint on paper that identifies the mill it came from. The word has a loose literary connection, and so does my blacksmithing. I started it as research for a book called Blood Bound in which the main character is a blacksmith. My research eventually led to trying it out (I built a simple forge and borrowed an anvil). Trying it out led to doing it as a hobby. At one point, I even stopped work on the book because I was so enthralled in smithing. The book did get finished (check it out on Amazon. Please!). It's the third book I've written, and so far it's my favorite because it led me to this amazing craft. So Watermark is a nod to that beginning.
