Embracing the Whimsy
From the moment I first picked up a crayon, I've been interested in art. Drawing, painting, rubber-stamping, embroidery, ceramics, beading, weaving, knitting, wood-carving, macrame - if there's an art form out there, odds are good that I've tried it at least once. (I still have painful memories of an unfortunate stained glass window class.)
When I started Wayward Arts, I decided to focus first on vintage button jewelry. I get a real thrill out of buying old jars and tins filled with vintage buttons at a yard sale or antique store, since I never know exactly what I'm going to make until I pour out the buttons and start looking at all the possibilities. I love working with buttons, because they are an unexpected medium that result in unconventional and fun-to-wear jewelry.
Over time, I plan to introduce into my Etsy shop collages, altered art pieces and whatever else I happen to dream up. My goal is to create surprising and noticeable works of art that make people smile.
