Things With A Past
I've always loved old things or as I like to describe them - things with a past. When I was in sixth grade my brother"s music group was hosting an inside flea market. This was where I purchased my first collectible doll - it was a 1920 Composition Doll and I just fell in love with her peaceful and sweet face. Since then I've been collecting all sorts of things.
I decided early on that I prefer things that have been previously owned - I love thinking that someone else used or played with the item. If you saw my home now you would see few things I own that are new. So, maybe you are wondering how did my love of vintage items translate into my etsy store? This past year I was laid off from my regular job. This has given me a lot of time to go through everything in the house and purge and organize. During this cleansing I had an epiphany - why am I storing things that other people could use and appreciate? As a result of this thought I decided to open my store - I wanted to make sure my 'treasures' would go to other people who would appreciate them. In reading the Forums on etsy I felt that the people who sold here and purchased here were the type of people I wanted to purchase my items.
The biggest collection I had was my doll collection with over 1,000 dolls. I started with this collection first and if you view my store you can tell I had stored them in groups. Some of the first dolls I listed on my store were my Advertising/Promotional dolls - these were all stored in the first two boxes, I have since added more and you will always see a theme in my most recent listings because they were also stored together. My oldest daughter is thrilled that I'm purging some of this collection because they are currently stored in a high crawl space in our guest room. She is the lucky one who gets to go up to the crawl space and pull out the boxes!!.
I have a lot of other items that I will be listing including vintage books. I lived in Europe for a while as a child and I came from a family of five kids. We were all big readers but none of my siblings was ever that interested in holding onto our old childhood books - I was! However, I have found that my children are not interested in these books and therefore they aren't being used. I love these stories and I want to pass the feeling of reading these great stores on to people who will appreciate them.
Other things that will be listed at some point are cooking utensils/items, antique picture frames, textiles and sewing accessories, old scrapbooks and much much more.
