Welcome to WhatTheCraft Pattern Co.! I’m Lex, and I’ve been designing alternative fashion and clothing patterns since 2003 under the label Smarmy Clothes.

WhatTheCraft.com was born in 2005 when I realized I didn’t just want to sew cool edgy clothes — I wanted to show other people how to do it, too!

What better way to assemble a dream wardrobe that reflects your unique aesthetic than making it yourself? Whether your fashion sense is rockabilly, retro, punk, pinup, pastel goth, 90s, y2k, kawaii, steampunk, edgy chic, soft grunge, classic, modern, coquette, cottagecore, or dark academia, my goal is to design easy to follow patterns that allow even beginning sewists to create clothing and accessories to match their own specific style.
