Form, Shape, Freedom and Pyjamas?
ZaZing started in 2006 as a hobby for both myself (Nikki) and Aj (my husband). I have been making beaded and shell jewellery since I was 15 years old so it was a natural progression to want to work in metal. Aj needed a break from "the daily grind" and a creative outlet for his HND in Design. So together we joined a Metal Design and Construction class and loved metalsmithing right from the beginning!
Now we are a mix of class and self taught. We both still go to class and there are some amazing online tutorials as well as many books to drool over.
We work mainly in sterling silver, copper and brass with accents of gold. It is really inspiring to take a piece of flat sheet or wire and shape it into something textured and 3 dimensional that can be worn and make the wearer feel good. I enjoy clean and simple lines and shapes as well as texture. Aj is more sculptural and take his inspiration from nature and architecture.
Quality is very important to us and we would rather start again than send out a piece we are not happy with. We feel confident that you are going to love and treasure your jewellery from us.
Our very small business allows me the freedom to stay home (poor Aj has a day job!) and look after our two boys and that is something I will always cherish. Unfortunately, I am not able to work in my pyjamas as I have the school run to do, maybe when the boys are older and can walk to school?
It still gives us a buzz that our jewellery is being worn all around the world and that is awesome!
