Art has always been at the center of my life. As a child I was drawn to color and shape and could get lost for hours in the making of my own imaginary worlds. In one form or another, I've been a professional artist all my life. In the seventies I lived in France and Italy showing my work in a number of galleries. Later back in the US, I worked as Graphics Editor for a daily newspaper and eventually started my own graphic design company based in Lexington, Massachusetts.
Today, I’m back where I started - playing with color and shape simply for the love of it. Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” I find that creativity is often linked to productivity. Pressure to produce can stifle creativity more effectively than any other influence. I’ll choose quality over quantity any day. My most productive times are spent in “stillness”, listening and looking with all the senses. I am contemplative by nature.
I’m drawn to the beauty that surrounds us, and the beauty that is within us. I love the peaceful serenity found while kayaking early in the morning, but I am primarily a studio artist. While some of my inspiration comes from the world around us, the majority comes from within. My focus is the longing of the human heart and my passion is to give voice to what cannot be said in words - to reveal what cannot be seen with the eye, but with the heart. I work primarily in soft pastel.
