While I've been a woodworker for decades, I've only recently considered producing items for a broader market than my immediate family. As I considered it, I knew I wanted to focus on some core values - objects that are simple but useful, durable in daily practice, and items that you can see passing down to the next generation. These sorts of things don't need to be elaborate, like Gramma's China hutch, but smaller and more involved in our daily routines - what I'm calling "life's rituals" - making a meal together, organizing our kitchen or office, adding a little beauty to our daily practices.

I'm starting with simple but elegant objects like these ravioli and gnocchi boards (with more in the wings). These are made, by me alone, with quality domestic hardwoods (sustainably harvested) . With proper treatment, they will last a lifetime. Imagine your grandkid using them in 40 years to make the same ravioli design that their grandparent did. That's the sort of endurance I'm trying to capture here.

Artifact Refinery is a bit of a funny name but it has meaning for me. I have a PhD in archaeology, of all things, and that discipline is highly focused on the material cultures of past people. One of the things we see in archaeology is that simple objects can last for hundreds, even thousands, of years. My goal here is to create "objects worth keeping" and "refined objects for life's rituals". Rituals are what we do every day - our life practices and routines. My goal is to help bring those sorts of objects into your life.
