Functional Home Decor by Astar
Hello!
My name is Astar Cohen, and I am a mother of 4 and an Israeli artist creating and designing practical, useful and functional wooden home decor.
My creative spirit started tickling my fingers when I was about four years old; I used to build dollhouses for my dolls. My first dollhouse was a super fancy one made of boxes and leftovers fabric. What a great memory!
I studied a Bachelor degree in Multi-Disciplinary Arts at the University of Tel Aviv and also studied two years drawing and sketching at Tel-Aviv "Avni Institute."
How did it all begin?
I used to have a day job as a bank clerk. I painted and drew on anything I could lay my hands on. After drawing on frames and Hamsa wall decoration, people started inquiring about ordering my designs, and the rest is history.
I applied to the well known "Nachalat Binyamin" Artists Craft Fair in Tel-Aviv and had been showcasing my art there since 1996.
Most of my designs are practical home items you will find helpful to get things organized - boxes, hangers, fridge notes, etc. In fact, my remote control box was created after our TV remote was always not to be found anywhere in our living room!
I love the frequent contact with the customers visiting my booth; their feedback is my inspiration for future designs.
I find inspiration in everything around me - fabric colors, architecture, colors of fruit, walking along the beach and Jewish symbols such as pomegranates.
My line of work is minimalist and clean. Every step is handmade starting from wood cutting, sanding, coloring, painting, varnishing. I take extra care to details; high-quality products are my top priority.
I dream that each home own one of my designs and enjoy a fun and organized environment!
