Because I'm Me, handcrafted bow ties, neckties, & related finishers
Because I'm Me began as a means to fill a need at my former brick-and-mortar store, Ditto Kiddo. I constantly received requests for cute, sturdy, and hip baby bibs and onesies. I started with just a few bibs and then added quilts, bags, and other children's items.
But wait, you say ... Isn't this a tie store?
With four sons I couldn't help but make a tie or two once or twice. And then a few more for friends. And then a few more with some of the fantastic fabrics I was finding that lent themselves to ties so well. And the rest, they say, is history.
My line now focuses on bow and neck ties and accessories. Each item is unique and special, just like the men, young and old, wearing them.
As a mom of 6 I appreciate the need for quality and functionality. I'm very careful with my materials and would never use anything I didn't want near my own children's faces.
And just who am I? I'm a mom to my crew of awesome kids - four of whom are boys as I mentioned, ranging in age from 7 to 22. My kids are active sailors, and we are actively involved in a variety of outdoor activities. We live in wonderful south Florida, home to sunshine, sand, and adventures galore. I home school three of the kids and much of my kitchen table time, while they work, is spent pairing new fabrics.
I've been sewing since I was in elementary school, with my mother as my first teacher. Colors and patterns make me weak in the knees. I'm not one to shy away from modern and surprising pattern and color pairings and lean toward fabrics that put a cheery smile on my face and brighten my heart. I sew for fun, and strive to reflect that in the items I create. When I sew I think about the end user of the product and work to create something that will be a cherished accessory.
I have two favorite things when it comes to what I make ... first is the satisfaction and giddiness of seeing the finished product, seeing the vision become reality, and second is the heartwarming joy I feel upon seeing and hearing from the new owners of my projects, learning how the necktie or bow tie has been a part of a special event in their world.
