Bibliographica is a small artisan bindery based in New Zealand. Primarily a photographer, my love of the darkroom & alternative processes slowly spilled over into the world of hand bookbinding. During the time when digital photography began to take over analogue, the aesthetics of my photographic practice started to emerge through my fascination for book work. I found great satisfaction in the process of making - the tangible object, which couldn't be erased with the press of a button.
I have a passion for creating unique hand bound journals, for artists & creatives. Centered around my collections of vintage, antique & recycled materials, my studio practice is slow & involved, and each piece a true labor of love.
Metaphorically, I like to think of my journals as vessels for your stories. After keeping journals for most of my life, I've found that telling our own story even just to the self, is a healing and transformative practice.
I update the store on a monthly basis usually, at a set date & time which I announce a few days prior here, and social media. Books are sold on a first in first served basis - they cannot be mass produced.
I take on a few custom orders at a time, and there is usually a 3-4 week waiting list, depending. Please message me with your requests, I'd love to create a special journal for you.

5 out of 5 starsIn love with the folk art style embroidery on this patchwork book. The birds, hearts and flowers are all so charming and the patchwork is beautiful! I love all of the different pieces of leather and cloth woven together to create something new and inspiring. The back cover is as wonderful as the front! Always a joy to receive another journal from Louise and this one is truly special!

5 out of 5 starsI am so pleased with the little patchwork journal collection! I have a plan to give one to each of my children filled with memories from their childhood. Each journal is uniquely different and a treasure to hold…just as my children were! ☺️

5 out of 5 starsI have been following this shop for a while now. Waiting on a piece that spoke to me. Just by reading all the other reviews, I knew that day would come. Every journal is an individual, full of personality and creative aspirations that call out to those who listen. If you feel the desire to continue that conversation, don’t hesitate! For me it was The Little Blue House! The monochromatic blue needlepoint with the burgundy leather is the perfect combination in my eyes. Louise puts thought and love into her work. Every stitch and every detail expertly crafted and executed. This shop is well worth it and deserving of praise.

5 out of 5 starsThe patchwork pieces on this journal cover are so gorgeous and I love to feel all of the textures. Both covers are stunning collages of the best little bits and I love that no scrap goes unused. This chunky little book is so full of charm and whimsy! Love it!

What began as a hobby became a necessity. Through book-binding I find I can use my creative energy in a variety of ways, and challenge myself with the materials at hand. I think of my work as incomplete - the recipient does the rest.
