About

Ukiyo-e Revisted: Cat Tales

I am an international award-winning artist and designer with a powerful influence based on the Ukiyo-e masters of Japan. It's always been there and crept into all phases of my work throughout my lifetime.

In the 1990s I had a life-changing injury that led me to simplify many aspects of my life. As I could no longer paint, I turned to the new media of digital art and design. While I took to it readily, it was many years before I regained my true creative voice.

I found it in my love of Japanese prints, their content snd composition, and their unique approach to pattern and color. And cats! My admiration for our feline companions has appeared in my artwork from the beginning, and now they take center stage.

Based on the Japanese masters, 'Cat Tales' includes the most recent work in the sub-series of cats in kimono from my 'Ukiyo-e Revisited' collection.

Cat Tales: Unintended Consequences
This growing sub-series includes scenes in which there is a surprising outcome in otherwise ordinary circumstances.

Cat Tales: Animal Rescue
This sub-series depicts stressful situations alleviated by a helping hand.

Cat Tales: Life As We Know It
A collection of all pieces in the series that do not fall into the other themes.

Cat Tales: Nine Lives (The Wait)
Subtitled 'If it takes forever I will wait for you', this sub-series consists of nine pieces. While the world goes on, we often seem to be waiting for life, for love, success, happiness to come to us. I used to tell my friend Russell who sat cooped up at home composing brilliant music that opportunity would not come knocking; he had to go out and make it happen. He was heavily on my mind when I created these images. It is also an homage to my Intrigo (although not a depiction of him), who lived a long and very lucky life.

Cat Tales: Samurai Gardeners
A subset of five pieces, Samurai Gardeners represent my love of gardening and my losing battle against those terrifying garden monsters: caterpillars, moths, snails, snakes and of course, weeds.

I am pleased and proud to offer this work on high-quality metal prints, custom printed just for you and delivered ready to hang -- no matting or framing required!
