About

At the start of XXth century, writer Nadezhda Mandelstam announced the beginnign of an era of ugly things. I would love to bring back the beauty.

What Clay Opera is?

I create pottery mostly, but not only. I do sculptures and actually everything what is possible from clay and glaze. From sinks and tiles, to the jewellery, plates and many more. I do not feel that all my works need to be useful. But if we define that things which are just beautiful and to look at are useful than yes… all of my works have a meaning.

Inspirations?

Every mug, salt cellar or plate created at my studio has its history, different inspiration. I create things in many styles, I do not focus on a one style, minimalism or eclectic. There are so many emotions all around that this would be impossible form me. What is sure that I am inspired by nature mostly this seen by magnifying glass. But I also am interested in geometric shapes, but on the other hand I cannot resist to create sweet little bears or clouds inspired by illustrations from books for children.
What is specific many of my ideas appear just before getting asleep. I am something like a mixture of many people in one body.

Since when do you create?

We can say that that was not long time ago when I started – it was something about 6 years ago. But I can’t define the exact day when IT HAPPENED ; ) I do not attaché importance to dates.

What distinguish your studio?

I do like light colors and things that we can call full of light. I prefer pastel colors and of course white to underline their shapes and not to hide their form with colors. Lately my favorite motive of works are illustrations, I paint a lot with majolica. When I use color I like them to be juicy and clean. Used properly also can underline the natural color of clay.
My work basis are: clay, glaze and majolica.

You create to express yourself or thinking about your clients?

I can create orders according to my client wishes – mainly washbowls and tilts. So you can find many things in my studio created for clients. But I prefer of course to create things which come from my idea. I do believe that sooner or later they will find a person who will like them too.

Who is the addressee of your works?

That is varied. I think that my works are for people who are interested in extraordinary decorations, so they naturally need to have some creative way of thinking. That makes me happy.
Some time ago I created a sculptured for the Erotic Museum in Warsaw. I would like to think about myself as a person who gave something in the field of culture. And as a person who gave something for people who can appreciate something special.

Ceramics is way of your living or hobby?

Both. Long time ago I promised to myself that I need to like my work, because I do not imagine to give my whole life to something what makes me unhappy or what I do not care about. I am not a type of person would like to dig their own grave.
I my free time I lead workshops in my studio in Warsaw. I teach ceramics from the lowest level of knowledge. I already have student from whom I am really proud..
If you like something and If you are really devoted to what you are doing that usually makes a profit. That how I do feel about myself.
